What is a Pizza Quesadilla?

A pizza quesadilla is essentially a quesadilla filled with pizza toppings.

It starts with a tortilla that’s buttered on one side and cooked on a griddle or skillet.

Then, you add pizza sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings.

Finally, you add another tortilla on top and cook until everything is melted and crispy.

It’s a very fun recipe that makes a quick dinner or easy snack.

You can even use a variety of meat, gooey cheese, or make a chicken quesadilla too!

Use your favorite fixings and grill to crispy perfection!

If you’re a fan of quesadillas you should try one of our other varieties too!

What Ingredients are in Pizza Quesadillas?

These ingredients come together to make a delicious and customizable pizza quesadilla that’s perfect for a quick and easy meal or snack.

Here’s a quick overview of the ingredients:

  • Flour tortillas: the base of the quesadilla, providing a soft and crispy texture.
  • Butter: used to coat the tortillas for added flavor and crispiness.
  • Pizza sauce: you could also use spaghetti sauce or tomato sauce.
  • Mozzarella cheese: provides the stringy and melty cheese that’s commonly used in pizzas.
  • Cheddar cheese: adds a sharp and tangy flavor to the quesadilla.
  • Favorite toppings: add your favorite pizza toppings to the quesadilla to customize it to your taste.

Pro Tips:

  • For a gluten-free pizza quesadilla try swapping for corn tortillas.
  • You could also use olive oil on the pan instead of butter, however the butter flavor is much better.
  • I don’t recommend tomato paste as it’s pretty thick.

How to Make Pizza Quesadillas

This easy recipe can be customized in different ways.

Make pepperoni pizza quesadillas or how about a supreme pizza quesadilla?

You can even toss in an extra layer of cheese or pepperoni slices. Yum!

  1. Butter one side of each tortilla.
  2. Place one buttery tortilla onto the hot griddle or skillet.
  3. Add cheese, sauce, and toppings.
  4. Top with the second tortilla, butter side up, and cook until golden brown and crispy.

Pro Tips:

  • Use a non-stick pan or griddle to prevent the quesadilla from sticking.
  • Be sure to leave a 1/4″ edge around the tortilla free of sauce to prevent the sauce from overflowing.
  • You can also add extra toppings like fresh herbs or crushed red pepper for added flavor.
  • For a more substantial meal, serve the quesadilla with a side salad or some roasted vegetables.
  • Heat the griddle or pan before you begin cooking.

Do Quesadillas Have Pizza Sauce in Them?

Traditionally, a regular quesadilla doesn’t have pizza sauce in it.

However, when making a pizza quesadilla, the sauce is a key ingredient to give it that pizza flavor.

You can use pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce, or even tomato sauce.

Can You Make Pizza Quesadillas Ahead of Time?

Easy pizza quesadillas are best eaten fresh and hot, but you can make them ahead of time if you need to.

You can assemble the quesadillas and store them in the fridge until you’re ready to cook them.

Just make sure to wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or foil to prevent them from drying out.

I’m curious why you didn’t put the sauce first then the cheese?!

Great question Sophia! I've found that if I put a layer of cheese first, the tortilla will attach itself to the cheese and almost seal up the insides, which makes it easier to cut and less drippy. If I do a layer of sauce first, the tortillas tend to slip around and it's gooier. Really there isn't a wrong way. You do what works for you and in the end it will still taste great! Thanks for your question!

This looks great...I'll have to keep it in my back pocket. We make similar quesadillas for my son, but I'll have to try the pizza sauce next time.
