What Is a Quesadilla?

A quesadilla is a Mexican dish that’s popular both in many South American countries and North American too!

It’s usually a tortilla filled with cheese and other ingredients, then folded in half and cooked until the cheese is melted and the tortilla is crispy and golden brown.

It can be made with either corn or flour tortillas, depending on your personal preference.

While traditional quesadillas are often filled with just cheese, there are endless possibilities for creative fillings.

You can easily add in meats and veggies for a healthier twist.

Or how about a bacon cheeseburger twist? I mean, it’s pretty stinking good!

Then of course are the toppings or dips. Traditionally, quesadillas would be served with sour cream, refried beans, or salsa.

But there are lots of different options and you should explore to find your favorites!

What Ingredients Are in Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas?

This cheeseburger quesadillas recipe uses a ground beef mixture that’s SO delicious! Your whole family will love it!

  • Ground Beef: Cook until browned in a skillet.
  • Bacon: Cook until crispy, then crumble.
  • Yellow Onion: Dice into small pieces.
  • Garlic Paste or Minced Garlic: Use minced garlic or garlic paste.
  • Ro*tel Tomatoes & Chilies: Drain the can.
  • Tortillas: I really prefer flour tortillas but you can totally use corn tortillas too.
  • Butter: Don’t substitute! Use real butter for the best flavor.
  • Cheese: Shred for melty goodness. I prefer cheddar cheese.
  • Ketchup, Yellow Mustard, Pickles (optional): Use as desired for extra flavor.

Pro Tips:

  • Use your favorite cheese blend for your layer of cheese. There’s no wrong answer!
  • Don’t skip on the butter – it’s the secret to achieving that perfect crispiness.
  • I don’t recommend cooking spray for the same reason. Way better with butter.
  • Use a large skillet! You need the tortillas to fit well in the pan!

How to Make Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas

All your favorite things squished in between a top and bottom tortilla? it’s like a good burger Mexican style!

  1. Cook beef and bacon.
  2. Prep onion and tomatoes.
  3. Butter tortillas.
  4. Build and cook quesadillas.

Pro Tips:

  • Use a plate to help flip the quesadilla if it’s too large to manage with just a spatula.
  • Be patient – medium heat is the key to perfectly melted cheese.
  • Don’t forget to butter the second flour tortilla. They both need butter on them.
  • If you have a lot of excess grease or bacon fat, you can drain some off. That’ll keep the quesadillas from being soggy.

Can I Use Flavored Tortillas for Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadilla?

Yes, you can use flavored tortillas to add an extra layer of flavor to your bacon cheeseburger quesadilla.

Consider options like spinach, tomato, or even jalapeño-infused tortillas for a unique twist.

Remember that it’s very cheeseburger flavored. So pick foods you would enjoy eating on a cheeseburger.

If you would hate jalapeno flavor on a burger, then probably don’t use it in these quesadillas.

What Method Is Best for Cooking Quesadillas?

There are actually a few options for cooking quesadillas!

The choice ultimately depends on your kitchen setup and personal preference.

Skillet, Griddle, Blackstone – All Work Great!

  • Skillet: A large non-stick skillet is a great choice and works well for most home cooks.
  • Griddle: If you have a non-stick griddle, it can accommodate multiple quesadillas at once, making it ideal for serving a crowd.
  • Blackstone: For those lucky enough to own a Blackstone griddle (love mine!) It’s a fantastic choice for cooking quesadillas due to its giant cooking surface.

Each method will give you the same delicious results, so go with what you’re most comfortable using.

And in case you’re wondering about the best way to cut them? A pizza cutter and a cutting board! There is no better way!

Are Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas Keto?

Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas, as traditionally prepared, are not keto-friendly due to the use of tortillas.

Remember keto is very low carb. And tortillas usually aren’t.

However, you can make them keto-friendly by using low-carb tortillas or lettuce wraps instead of traditional tortillas.

This modification will reduce the carb content but keep all the flavors you love.

However, I don’t think you could fry up lettuce wraps like you could quesadillas.

You’d probably want to cook the inside part separate and then fill the lettuce wraps.

If you do try it, please let me know how it turns out!

Are Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas Healthy?

While bacon cheeseburger quesadillas are SUPER delicious, they are not really considered a health food.

They are usually pretty high in calories. And most people agree that bacon and cheese don’t make the health food list.

But then again, some people are totally okay with eating bacon and cheese and think it’s quite healthy! Health seems to be pretty subjective!

You can always make them slightly healthier by using lean ground beef, turkey bacon, and opting for a smaller amount of cheese.

Are Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas Gluten-Free?

Bacon cheeseburger quesadillas are not gluten-free when prepared with regular flour tortillas.

However, you can easily make them gluten-free by using gluten-free tortillas or corn tortillas as a substitute!

That’s actually a pretty easy swap. I don’t think the corn tastes quite as cheeseburger-y. But I haven’t tried the gluten free tortillas and they might taste really great.

What to Serve with Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadilla:

Bacon cheeseburger quesadillas are a complete meal on their own!

There are some sauces and things I recommend though:

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Pickles
  • Barbecue Sauce
  • Cream Cheese

If you’re looking to round out your meal, consider serving them with some classic sides:

Can You Freeze Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadilla?

Yes, you can freeze bacon cheeseburger quesadillas. Yay for meal prep!

To freeze them, individually wrap each quesadilla in plastic wrap or aluminum foil.

Be sure they are well-sealed! This is what keeps them from getting freezer burned.

Then, place them in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag and store them in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.

How to Store Leftover Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas:

Leftover bacon cheeseburger quesadillas can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

I don’t find they stick together or anything, but if you have that problem, put a little parchment paper between them.

For longer storage, freeze them as mentioned above.

How to Reheat Leftover Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadilla:

To reheat leftover bacon cheeseburger quesadillas, follow these simple steps:

  • Oven: You can reheat the quesadillas in the oven on about 350. Heat until warmed through.
  • Microwave: Use a microwave safe plate and heat in 30-second increments. Careful not to overcook it.
  • Air Fryer: For extra crispiness, you can use an air fryer. Don’t heat too long! You don’t need to recook it. Just warm it up.

I prefer to use the oven or air fryer as I like to keep my tortillas nice and crispy. But in a pinch, the microwave works great too.

This bacon cheeseburger quesadilla recipe, combines the best of two worlds! The classic cheeseburger and the delicious quesadilla! Yum!

This mouthwatering treat is perfect for any occasion! So, gather your favorite ingredients, get your skillet sizzling, and enjoy the deliciousness of bacon cheeseburger quesadillas!

Bacon Cheeseburger Quesadillas are a delicious blend of flavors wrapped in a crispy tortilla! Easy to make and perfect for a quick meal!

Cook Time 18 minutes
Total Time 18 minutes

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, add ground beef, cooked bacon, onion, garlic and Ro*tel.
  2. Cook on medium heat until meat is cooked through and onions are translucent. Drain off excess fat.
  3. While meat is cooking, butter one side of each tortilla.
  4. Place tortilla in a large skillet or griddle butter side down.
  5. Layer with cheese then ground beef mixture then more cheese. Don't be shy with the cheese!
  6. Place second buttered tortilla on top of cheese butter side UP.
  7. Cook quesadillas for approximately 4 minutes on each side over medium heat. You don't want to cook too fast or the cheese wont melt. And you don't want to cook too slow or the cheese will never melt! Medium heat should do it.
  8. Once tortilla turns a golden color on the bottom, flip it and cook additional 3 - 4 minutes on other side.
  9. If you aren't sure how to flip it because it's so big, place a plate face down onto your quesadilla. Then using a spatula scoop up the quesadilla onto the plate then flip plate over so it's in the correct position and slide quesadilla off. This will ensure no spillage of yummy insides!
  10. Once done, use a knife or pizza cutter to cut into 6 pieces.
  11. Serve with ketchup, mustard & pickles!
