It’s winter. Too cold to even think about clearing off that frozen grill in the backyard. But did you know you can get that same great steak indoors?

Butter pan fried steaks are easy to make on your stove and don’t take any longer than firing up the grill!

And steak fried in butter? Forget about it! It’s cooked to perfection and savory in every bite.

You’ll love that frying steaks in butter may seem like high end restaurant cooking but actually it takes very little effort. So you can even eat them in your PJs. Go ahead!

What is a Pan Fried Steak?

Everyone is familiar with steak right? It’s a summertime staple around our house! Often in the form of Grilled Stuffed Flank Steak!

But the snow and the wind don’t blow away those steak cravings!

Pan Fried Steak is the solution. It’s a steak cooked indoors in a pan on your stove and then finished in the oven.

A lot of restaurants will make pan fried steak since not all of them will have a grill in the back!

What Ingredients are in a Pan Fried Steak?

This is actually one of my favorite ways to cook steak. It gives you a nice crust with a juicy steak. Here’s the ingredients you’ll need.

  • Butter: You’ll use the butter for frying and for making a yummy garlic butter spread.
  • Garlic Paste: If you don’t have garlic paste you can use ¼ tsp of garlic powder to ever tsp of garlic paste.
  • Filet Mignon Steaks: Pick good quality steaks to get that perfect cook on the easy steak recipe.
  • Salt and Pepper: A seasoning staple.
  • Olive Oil: You could also use vegetable oil if you don’t have any olive oil.
  • Garlic Cloves and Thyme: You’ll love this yummy flavor combination!

How to Pan Fry a Steak

Perfect pan-seared steak can be made in a frying pan or cast iron pan right in your own kitchen!

For step-by-step instructions see the recipe card below. Here’s a basic rundown of how to make this restaurant quality steak.

  1. Mix: Combine butter and garlic to make a really yummy garlic butter.
  2. Sear: Each side of the steak should be seared on a hot skillet on the stove top.
  3. Bake: Finish off baking in the oven until it reaches desired doneness.

Helpful Tips:

  • Dry steak with a paper towel and then season steaks to help it stick.
  • Use an oven safe skillet or a cast iron skillet is also a great option so you don’t need to use two pans.
  • Always be sure your pan is hot before you add the steak to get that beautiful sear.
  • A thick steak will have a longer cooking time while a thin steak will take less time to get the perfect steak.
  • Let the steak rest for a few minutes on the cutting board before serving to absorb any excess moisture.

Can I Eat Steak While Pregnant?

Protein, iron, vitamins, and minerals, steak is an excellent source of food for a pregnant woman!

In fact, many women crave tender steak or other meats while they’re pregnant because their bodies and their babies really need it!

The one rule during pregnancy is always to cook your meat until it’s cooked through.

Undercooked meat carries the risk of food poisoning and bacteria, which is something you definitely don’t want to deal with while you’re pregnant!

Here’s how to know what temperature your steak cooks at to be sure it’s cooked completely.

Rare Steaks should be between 125*-135*F

Medium Rare Steaks should be between 130*-140*F

Tasty Medium Steaks should be between 140*-150*F

Medium Well Steaks should be between 150*-160*F

Well done steaks are 160*F or more.

Again remember, thinner steaks will take less time than thicker cuts.

How to Make Garlic Butter

Garlic butter! If you haven’t had it on steak, you’ll always have it again after this!

We use garlic butter on steak, bread, noodles, and lots of other things! And it’s really easy to make!

First, soften the butter. It doesn’t need to be completely melted but it needs to be soft enough for you to stir.

I usually just use room temperature butter. It’s soft enough to quickly mix together.

Then combine the butter with garlic paste until mixed thoroughly.

Transfer the butter and garlic mixture to the fridge and let it harden.

That’s it! Toss it on whatever you want! It tastes delicious!

What to Serve with Steak

Steak is almost never served alone because it’s just pure protein and can be really heavy.

Here’s some great ideas of what to serve with your simple steak recipe.

  • Potatoes: Easy Twice Baked Potatoes, Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes, or Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes
  • Salad: Grilled Corn Salad, Lentil Salad, or Butternut Squash Salad
  • Vegetables: Roasted Vegetables, Yellow Squash Casserole, or Air Fryer Asparagus
  • Noodles: Easy Pasta Salad, Green Chile Macaroni and Cheese, or Fettuccine Alfredo
  • Bread: Oatmeal Molasses Bread, Sweet Potato Rolls, or My Favorite Crescent Rolls

Can Dogs Eat Steak?

In moderation steak is good for you, and it’s good for your dog too!

The iron, omegas, and vitamins that steak has can improve your dogs health even!

However, steak doesn’t need to be seasoned for dogs to enjoy it and in most cases it shouldn’t be!

Cook a steak separately if you’re planning on giving it to your dog. Use a light oil, just enough to keep it from sticking to the pan.

Never give your dog anything cooked with garlic or onion as they can be toxic for dogs.

How to Store Steak

Any leftover steak should be stored in the refrigerator.

Transfer butter fried steaks to an airtight container to store.

Steak will stay good in the fridge for up to 5 days when stored properly.

seems like a large amount of salt and pepper for just 16oz of meat --- also, is the butter salted or unsalted ?

Robert, you are the only person in 4 1/2 years to point that out, and you are 100% correct! Ha! The recipe should have said 4 Steaks, not 2, which then makes all the portions correct! Thank you so much for your comment!

Sarah, I hope you do and I certainly hope you like them! Adjust the cooking time to your preference and keep in mind the thickness of your meat will vary your cooking time as well!
