What Ingredients Are in Oreo Cupcakes?

Vanilla Oreo cupcakes use crushed oreos and a cream cheese frosting. They are the perfect combo!

  • Chocolate Cake Mix: Surprise! Trust me, it’s cheaper to start with a base and then add a few extra ingredients to really make it taste like a bakery cupcake!
  • All-Purpose Flour & Sugar: This gives the cupcake a back bone and the ability to not sink under the pressure of the frosting.
  • Sour Cream: This is the key to moist cupcakes.
  • Eggs: To hold everything together. Plus it helps them rise too.
  • Butter: The base of the creamy frosting. I always use salted.
  • Whipping Cream & Cream Cheese: I mean… you can taste that frosting already right?
  • Powdered Sugar: To sweeten and stabilize the frosting.
  • Oreos: Try not to eat too many before you need them!

Pro Tips:

  • Sift your dry ingredients like cocoa powder and flour to avoid lumps.
  • Chop the dark chocolate finely. You don’t want big lumps in the cupcakes.

Oreo cream cupcakes are a such a great recipe that Oreo lovers are gonna go crazy for!

  1. Start by creating a fluffy base with butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  2. Mix in your dry ingredients and buttermilk for a smooth batter.
  3. Bake the cupcakes until they’re perfectly moist and springy.

Pro Tips:

  • Fill the cupcake liners 2/3 full to ensure they rise evenly.
  • Use a cooling rack after baking for the perfect cupcake texture.
  • Get creative with your frosting designs for an extra special touch.
  • Remember, the key to a great cupcake is not to overmix the batter! This keeps them light and fluffy.

Can You Make Oreo Cupcakes Ahead of Time?

Yes you can make them ahead of time!

Bake the cupcakes up to a day in advance and store them in an airtight container.

Frost them on the day you plan to serve for the freshest taste.

I also recommend frosting them the day of because that way the frosting won’t get squished when storing.

How to Store Oreo Cupcakes

It’s super easy to store these homemade cupcakes.

Place them in an airtight container to keep them moist and fresh.

If they’re already frosted, make sure there’s a bit of space at the top so the frosting doesn’t get squished!

For unfrosted cupcakes, you can just stack them with parchment paper between layers.

How Long Do Oreo Cupcakes Last?

In the fridge, these chocolate Oreo cupcakes will stay delicious for 1-2 days. Maybe three days on the outside.

Though they never last that long around here. They’re SO good. We eat them up well before that.

If you keep them at room temperature, they’re best enjoyed within the same day for maximum freshness.

And if you’re serving them at a party or BBQ? Avoid the heat and direct sunlight!

Otherwise you’ll have melting cupcakes and those are always a bummer.

Do You Have to Refrigerate Oreo Cupcakes?

It’s best to refrigerate these cupcakes. Though without the frosting they could last longer on the counter.

But the frosting has cream cheese and whipping cream. So to the fridge!

This will keep them fresh and prevent the frosting from melting.

Just let them come to room temperature before serving if you like them that way.

Can You Freeze Oreo Cupcakes?

Yes, you can freeze Oreo cupcakes! And you should totally make a double batch just so you can!

Wrap unfrosted cupcakes individually in plastic wrap and then put them in a ziplock bag.

They can be frozen for up to 3 months.

Thaw them at room temperature and frost before serving.

Frosted cupcakes can also be frozen, but it’s definitely more tricky.

First, the frosting texture might change slightly.

Second, it’s much harder to wrap them well so they don’t dry out in the freezer without squishing the frosting.

Maybe try flash freezing and then wrapping. Let me know if you do it how it goes!

Can You Make Oreo Cupcakes in a Mini Cupcake Pan?

You can definitely make these this classic cupcake recipe in a mini cupcake pan!

Mini Oreo cupcakes are perfect for parties or as a bite-sized treat. And by the way… they’re SO adorable that way!

Just adjust the baking time since they will cook faster.

Keep an eye on them and test for doneness using a toothpick.

What to Serve with Oreo Cupcakes

A glass of cold milk, a cup of apple juice, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream!  Mixed with that chocolatey, creamy flavor? So good!

For a dessert spread, they go well alongside fruit tarts or delicious cookies.

Can I Put an Oreo on the Bottom of My Cupcake?

Actually you can! And it turns out so good!

Placing a whole Oreo cookie at the bottom of each cupcake liner before adding the batter is a fun surprise.

It’s definitely an extra Oreo punch! And the texture contrast is great!

You may not want to add the whole Oreo to the top of the cupcake though if you do that.

Two oreos in one cupcake seems like a lot. Though maybe for you it isn’t. And if you want two oreos, then go for it!

You could also try mini oreos instead on top. That way it’s not too crazy.

Remember though not to overfill the liners! You still only want them ⅔ full.

So you’ll end up with a smaller cupcake portion that way.

How to Crush Oreos

For the perfect Oreo cookie crumbs, you can use a food processor. It makes a fine crumb and is super easy.

If you don’t have one, place your Oreos in a ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

It’s a bit more work, but it does the trick! And if the kids are helping, definitely do it this way! It’s their favorite!

Just use double ziplocks with the kids. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to Oreo crumbs!

Oreo cupcakes are as fun to make as they are to eat! Well maybe not quite as much. They’re REALLY fun to eat.
