What Ingredients are in Oven Baked Rice?

Buttery rice is the perfect side dish and the best way to dress up plain white rice.

  • Chicken Broth: Use a good quality chicken broth or make this vegetarian by using vegetable broth.
  • Water: You’ll also need some water to get the right consistency for the rice.
  • Rice: I prefer to use long grain rice like Jasmine Rice or Basmati Rice.
  • Sugar: Just a hint of sugar gives a taste of sweetness without being overwhelming.
  • Salt: Sea salt is my favorite but use whatever salt you have on hand.
  • Lemon Juice: Fresh squeezed lemon juice is better for flavor but bottled lemon juice works too.
  • Butter: Can’t have buttered rice without the delicious butter!

Pro Tips:

  • If your chicken broth is super salty and you use salted butter be sure to wait to add any extra salt until the end.
  • You can use brown rice too but the texture and cooking time will vary.
  • Rinse rice before using it to remove any excess starch from the factory.
  • Short-grain rice cooks differently than long grain rice. You’ll definitely need to adjust the cook time if you use it.

How to Make Oven Baked Rice?

This simple side dish is one of our favorite dishes for a reason! Serve with any main course and you’ll be sure to love it!

  1. Boil: In a saucepan on the stove top boil the chicken broth and water.
  2. Mix: Add in the rice, sugar, salt, and lemon juice.
  3. Bake: Bake in the oven until perfectly light and fluffy!

Pro Tips:

  • It is essential that you cover the rice in the oven! Foil is a must to prevent crispy rice.
  • Prepare your casserole dish by spraying with cooking spray to keep the finished rice from sticking.
  • Only uncooked rice will work so don’t use leftover rice.
  • Good garnish options are: parmesan cheese or fresh parsley.

Can Dogs Eat Oven Baked?

White rice can actually be good for a dog’s stomach when they’ve got an upset stomach.

It can be good for a human’s stomach too in that situation!

However, butter, sugar, and other ingredients can be hard on a dog’s stomach and actually do more harm than good.

So only feed plain rice to your dog and be sure not to use any extras.

Is Oven Baked Rice Healthy?

White rice has been in debate for a few years now. While there is lots of nutritional information, some people prefer brown rice.

While there are many nutritional benefits to eating brown rice, there is actually nutritional value in white rice too.

You’ll get fiber, folate, manganese, thiamine, selenium, niacin, Vitamin B6, copper, and more from eating white rice.

And you can even buy enriched rice that includes even more of those healthy vitamins and minerals.

So eating rice as part of a healthy diet is good for you!

And actually, rice is an excellent choice too because it’s gluten free.

Which means when you’ve got gluten free guests coming for dinner, this is an easy side dish choice!

Can Babies Eat Oven Baked Rice?

Rice cereal is often recommended as a baby’s first food starting around 6 months of age.

That’s because it’s so easy to digest!

Though some people now recommend starting with other more nutritious foods like avocado.

If you do feed your baby buttered rice, there are some important things you’ll want to keep in mind.

You’ll need to have introduced all of the ingredients to your baby already one at a time.

That means don’t start with oven baked rice as a first food, but once you know your baby tolerates rice, butter, citrus, etc. then it should be fine.

Also, make sure your baby is okay at chewing up foods.

Babies need to learn how to use their mouths! That’s why their first foods are pureed.

So be sure your baby has moved past the pureed stage and is eating well before you give them this buttered rice recipe.

How to Store Oven Baked Rice?

Store any leftover buttered rice in the fridge or the freezer.

First allow the rice to come to room temperature and then move to an airtight container.

Rice should stay good in the fridge for up to 5 days and in the freezer rice actually lasts for up to 6 months!

If you notice the rice has become slimy, smelly, or develops mold, toss it out.

Also any leftover rice can be used up in this Easy Fiesta Salad or Pineapple Rice Pudding!
