I hope you don’t judge me, or anyone else we passed these cookies onto, as we’ve all enjoyed these both as a dessert and a breakfast cookie.

Really I think it’s quite justified!  Banana and Oatmeal are both healthy and breakfast items.  And who hasn’t had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast?  So really when you put all of that together, eating cookies for breakfast sounds quite normal and something we should all be doing more of.

In our house, we tend to go in banana phases.  One week we can’t get enough of them and the next we have bananas coming out of our ears! 

This was just such a time.  I had two bundles of bananas which were virtually untouched and needed a few tasty treats to make. 

I decided to whip up some of my Strawberry Banana Muffins as I also had some wilted Strawberries {which were fantastic and never disappoint} and then I whipped up a double batch of these cookies. 

I think next time I’ll even add in a bit of coconut too – not that they need it.  Trust me, they were perfect just the way they are.  However I love coconut and am on a coconut kick right now and quite frankly it sounds like a great combo of flavors!

If you are like us and find yourself with extra bananas sitting around turning black, whip these up these banana, oatmeal, chocolate chip cookies.  Simple, tasty and an optional breakfast item!

Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Yield: 2 dozen

Banana, Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip Cookies

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 18 minutes
Total Time 28 minutes


  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup mashed banana (1 medium/large banana)
  • 1 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups quick oats
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips, semi sweet or milk ~ whatever you prefer!


Preheat oven to 350*F
In a stand mixer, cream butter and sugars.
Add banana, egg and vanilla and mix well, scraping sides as needed.
Add salt, baking soda & cinnamon and mix until incorporated.
Add flour 1/2 cup at a time, blending after each addition.
Add quick oats 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Add chocolate chip, mix until chocolate chips are mixed throughout.
With a cookie scoop or a spoon, spoon out 1 tablespoon of dough onto prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 15 - 18 minutes until edges begin to golden. Let cool completely on a wire rack.

    • Audra, I have never tried it with old fashioned oats. They might be a tad bit more dry and chewier than usual. If you try it, let me know. I honestly don’t know how they’d turn out with old fashioned oats.
