One of the best pieces of advice I have ever been given, is when you make pulled pork – always double the recipe.  That tip has never failed me.  Leftover pulled pork tastes amazing in so many recipes and makes pulling dinner together on a busy weeknight a cinch!

You’ll have so many delicious leftover pulled pork recipes, you’ll wish you made a triple batch of your pork!

What is the best recipe to make pulled pork?

Our family’s favorite is this Sweet Pork Recipe – which is a Cafe Rio copycat recipe.  Anytime we have company over for dinner they always request our pulled pork.

It has tasted great in every leftover pulled pork recipe I’ve ever made.  If you’re into smoking your meat, this Smoked Pork Butt (Pork Shoulder) makes amazing pulled pork!

If you’re looking for a great Side Dish or two this Instant Pot Baked Beans recipe is always a hit as well as this Creamy Coleslaw Recipe!

What to do with leftover pulled pork?

There are three things you can do with your leftover pulled pork.

  1.  Fridge – Save it in the fridge for up to 5 days to later use.  You can eat your leftover shredded pork  plain, slathered in bbq sauce or turn it into a pulled pork sandwich,  pulled pork tacos, pulled pork nachos, or on top of your favorite Mac & Cheese with Ritz Crackers – the possibility are endless!
  2. Freeze – You can freeze your leftover pulled pork!  Personally I’d take it a step further.  Choose a few of the leftover pulled pork ideas below and then turn them into freezer meals.  If you’re planning on making pizza with it, place the appropriate amount of leftover pulled pork into a freezer bag and write Pizza on the bag.  Then a list of the ingredients needed and cook time.  That way when it comes time to make the pizza you wont have to look anything up but simply whip it together!  Plus you wont stand there looking at your frozen pulled pork wondering what great idea you were going to make with it!
  3. Menu Plan – Simply pick a few leftover pulled pork ideas below and plan the rest of your weeks menu based on your pulled pork.  Trust me, they wont all taste the same.  Each item will taste completely different but 100% delicious!

How to freeze leftover pulled pork?

Freezing your leftover pulled pork is one of the best and financial smart ideas you could make!  If you aren’t able to eat it all your pulled pork within 5 days after cooking it, freezing your pulled pork ensures that it doesn’t go to waste and will create a quick and easy meal at a future date!

Freezing your leftover pulled pork is easy!

  • Allow your pulled pork to cool completely to room temperature – or place it in the fridge to chill.
  • Once at room temperature, place your pulled pork in an air tight, freezable container or freezer zipper bag.
  • I recommended freezing your pork in smaller portions – the size that you can make single meals out of.  You don’t want to refreeze pulled pork once it’s thawed.
  • Squeeze as much air out of your container or bag as possible.
  • Write the date and what the item is (pulled pork, turkey and chicken look a lot of like in the freezer).
  • When time to enjoy, thaw frozen pulled pork in the fridge for 24 hours before use or thaw according to microwave instructions.
