One dish that my husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE is Mongolian Beef.
Oh man, if you’ve never had it, you are in for a treat!
Mongolian beef is traditionally made on the stove and a bit crispy.
However it’s delicious any way you make it.
We’ve made it on the stove, in the crock pot and now in our new pressure cooker.
And I have to say that it is delicious every way.
The upside to using a pressure cooker is that this meal is ready in 20 minutes.
Did you hear that? I certainly did.
It was the choirs of Angels singing at the phrase, it’s ready in 20 minutes.
To be honest, I’ve heard the hype of a pressure cooker.
And honestly never thought much about them past the “canning” ability they offer.
That was until my parents bought me one.
I’ve used ours for all kinds of meals and will continue to experiment and bring you new recipes throughout the year.
However I wanted our first Num’s the Word pressure cooker recipe to be amazing.
This Pressure Cooker Mongolian Beef is AMAZING!
The flavors are perfect – sweet and flavorful. Served over rice it made a fantastic meal and perfect for the next day as leftovers too!
Plus…did I mention it took me 20 minutes for the entire meal?! Which INCLUDES cooking the meat perfectly!
If you have a pressure cooker – give this one a try! If you don’t then it’s time to jump on this bandwagon as it’s all the rage right now for good reason!
Pressure Cooker Mongolian Beef
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak cut into thin strips - I like to ask the butcher to slice it for me - his knife is sharper than mine!
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoon minced garlic or 2 teaspoons garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger or ginger paste
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup carrots - sliced or grated
- Green onions for garnish
- 2 Cups cooked rice - I suggest cooking rice on stove top as beef is cooking.
Instructions
Place sliced steak and corn starch into a gallon sized ziploc bag. Shake well until all steak is coated.
Add carrots and shake again until carrots are also coated. Set aside.
In a bowl, whisk olive oil, garlic, ginger, dark brown sugar, soy sauce & water together.
Pour mixture into pressure cooker.
Sift out steak and carrots and place into pressure cooker. Mix well to evenly coat all meat and carrots.
Place lid onto pressure cooker, locking into place. Make sure venting spout is closed.
Program for High Pressure, 12 minutes.
When beef is finished cooking, open venting spout with a dish cloth. Allow all air to vent out. Once venting is over, open pressure cooker. Mix well and serve over rice.

We have an 8-quart Instant Pot and got the "burn food" message and it was all burned on the bottom. Any idea how to not have that happen?

Add more liquid next time. That should prevent the burn notice. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Made this as my first dish in my first pressure cooker last week. Was delicious! Added steamed broccoli to it at the end. Going to make it with pork tomorrow night.
