One of the many hidden treasures around St. Cloud just happens to be at your local Lunds & Byerlys grocery store. Whether or not you’ve ever stepped foot in their store, you really should come check out this free event!
When it comes to the month of October, our minds shift from Apple orchards to Halloween. My kids start talking about all things Halloween on October 1st and the excitement builds throughout the month.
Every year we look for fun free activities to take the kids to that will also produce great results. There is nothing worse that showing up to an event and finding out it was a dud.
Trunk or Treats are plentiful and lots of fun. But WHAT ELSE is there to do?
Most places give out heaps of candy, but not Lunds and Byerlys. They offer a Halloween event that includes dressing up, having fun and a dance party – all with healthier treat options!
A few years ago, we went to Lunds and Byerlys Boo Blast on a whim with very low expectations. It’s a grocery store, so how good could it actually be?!
We were pleasantly surprised by what a great job they did and how fun it was. My kids now look forward to this event every year.
What To Expect:
It all starts with fun photos outside the store next to their pumpkins and hay bails.
Once inside, the real fun begins! You’ll notice right away that all the employees dress up in fun Halloween costumes. You can tell the employees take this event seriously!
My kids love to look at the fun kid friendly costumes and give high fives to the employees. Don’t hesitate to get a photo with the best ones!
As you walk through the front doors, you’ll be greeted with a fabric fold up grocery bag as a thank you gift for coming. It can also double as a trick or treat bag if you’ve forgotten yours.
It’s at this point the employees will answer questions, point you in the right direction and offer you a welcoming smile.
Each store will do things slightly differently, but from what I’ve heard, they are all fun events for kids of all ages.
As you “trick or treat” throughout the store you’ll find fun treasure around every corner.
Free hot dogs for the entire family and plenty of snacks and treats will greet you along the path.
What Treats are Given?
Items we’ve received at past events are milk and pop, candy and cookies, apples and pears, crackers and chips and more.
We’ve found the Lunds & Byerlys Boo Blast to be a great way to introduce kids to new foods they may not have been willing to try before.
It’s also a great way to enjoy things that aren’t just candy.
In our store, not only is there trick or treating, face paining AND free hot dogs, but there is always a DJ.
Dance Party!
Get ready for a dance party in the meat department – if you’re willing of course.
Any child (or adult) who wants to get down and groovy can. You’re guaranteed an audience and you never know, you might just start a dance off!
Our store also has several large Halloween blow up figures scattered throughout the store which are fun to check out!
Stopping by Lunds and Byerlys Boo Blast a few years ago to check out this event was one of the best decisions we’ve made.
My kids love to check out the costumes, grab a few snacks, and get their face painted.
As a parent, I really appreciate all the time and effort Lunds & Byerlys makes towards the event and their no hassle attitude.
Sales Pitch?
There are zero sales pitches on the items distributed and you are never pressured to shop while in the store. However, if you take a few minutes to look at their deal items, you’ll find that many are cheaper than Walmart!
Lunds and Byerlys never haggled me to buy a specific product and I’ve walked away many times without a single purchase.
I also appreciate that there were zero speeches on why Lunds & Byerlys is “the best store” as I walked around.
It was 100% a ‘welcome to our store, have a good time and thank you for coming’ kind of event.
No strings attached.
They don’t require a donation of food or money to come and participate. Just a willing body to walk around and have fun!
After going our first year I had a friend tell me that she had stopped by to grab a quick grocery item with her teenage son. She had no idea the event was happening and loved seeing all the little kids dressed up.
One of the things that impressed her the most was the attitude of the employees. Not only did the offer her a free fabric bag but also invited and encouraged her teenage son to join in on the trick or treating fun!
Despite him being “too old” to Trick or Treat, Lunds & Byerlys didn’t care about his age and wanted everyone to have a great experience.
To me that certainly says a lot about the store and the people who run it. Great experiences naturally lead to customers. By hosting this free, fun and family friendly event, they are showing the community who they really are.
The entire event lasts 20 minutes or longer, depending on your willingness to dance.
Lunds & Byerlys Boo Blast gets a BIG two thumbs up by my family and is something that we go to every year! Perhaps this year we’ll see you along the Trick or Treat trail!
