I can hardly believe that summer is half way over!! The weather has been beautiful and we’ve spent a lot of time outside enjoying the sunshine. However there have been a few unbearably hot days of which can be spent indoors watching a movie!
One of the things we like to do in the Summer months is to enjoy Marcus Theaters Summer Film Series.
This is something that may have escaped your notice if you are not an avid movie goer.
As for our family we take the kids to the movies a few times each year, however my husband and I have only seen 1 movie in the last 4 years that wasn’t with our kids. It was just last week that we finally took off on a long over due movie date and it was while there that I remembered about the Marcus Theater Summer Film Series.
I’ve known about this for years now. And we’ve gone a few times in past years. However this year it completely escaped my mind! Until now!
WHAT IS MARCUS THEATER SUMMER FILM SERIES?
Actually for the purposes of being correct, the full title of the event is called Marcus Theater Kids Dream Summer Film Series. That is a HUGE mouthful. And one that I did no want to write over and over again. And thus I shortened the name to just make it easier on myself!
Most movie theaters offer some sort of winter and/or summer film series for children. In the various states we’ve lived in, and at the various movie theaters in each state, they’ve all had similar programs.
Ideally it’s a fun way to bring your children to a G or PG movie in a more relaxed environment.
What I mean by more relaxed environment is that it’s a theater full of wiggly, giggly, chatty children. As a parent, it is tough to bring my younger children to the movies because they are 100% incapable of sitting in their seat. They are up and down and all over everyone laps. Not to mention the fact that they do not know how to whisper and blurt things out throughout the entire movie.
As a parent I get it. As a paying movie goer, it’s annoying. The Summer Film Series gives parents and kids a chance to get out of the house during the Summer months when it’s too hot to play outside. Plus the theater is chalk full of wiggly, giggly, chatty children and so yours will blend right in.
As an added bonus, if you are unsure how your child will do at their first movie, this is the prefect time to try it out. The movies are prereleased movies and you can watch it at home before you come to see if your child even likes the movie. If they do, then bring them to the theater to try it out on the big screen with lounger style seating!
It’s the perfect trial run before taking them to a new release film.
This event happens every June, July & August for the Summer film series and March & April for the winter film series. So if you don’t make it this year, mark your calendars for next year!
WHAT AGES ARE ALLOWED TO ATTEND?
Marcus Theater has a policy that ages 3+ are required to have a paid ticket. Anyone under the age of 3 will be allowed in free, if sitting with an adult. If your child will require their own seat, you must pay for it.
WHY IS THE KIDS DREAM SUMMER FILM SERIES SO EXPENSIVE?
Some would say that the $3 price tag is a steal of a deal. I however tend to squawk about how expensive it is! Compared to other theaters, Marcus Theater is by far the most expensive option for their children’s film series.
The $3 price tag is definitely less than the $5 Tuesday deal that is normally offered.
However when you add in the extras, it’s actually more expensive to see a movie that is old and already on Netflix than to see a new released film.
If I’ve lost you, I’ll break it down to make it pretty simple.
Kids Dream Summer Film Series Price: $3.00 movie ticket + $2.75 popcorn = $5.75 per person. Drink not included.
Tuesday New Release Film – $5.00 + FREE popcorn = $5.00 per person. Drink not included.
See, it’s actually $0.75 more expensive to sit in a loud theater full of talking children, watching a film that is already on Netflix than it is to go see a new release film.
Having said that, going to the movies is always a fun experience. And popcorn is not required. Plus if you look below you’ll find out why you should go!!
ARE THERE ANY DEALS?
I am so glad you asked! Yes there are! Believe it or not, SO MANY people do not know about the deal!! Thanks to American Family Insurance, you can go to the theater for FREE! Yep you read that right!
If you click on THIS LINK you’ll be taken to American Family Insurance’s website. And you’ll see that you can download and print 2 free tickets to go see any movie during the Marcus Theater Summer Film Series!
However, glitch or no glitch, when you click on the link, 4 tickets show up. 2 per page.
And guess what? You can use them this week and then print new ones for next week, and print new ones for the week after etc.
So you could technically go all Summer long and see free movies. Making your only purchase at the movie theater Popcorn!
Note: That American Family Insurance has been sponsoring this event for the last few years to my knowledge. However there is no guarantee of them sponsoring it in the future.
Please also note that if you plan on using the free passes you’ll want to either show up early to get seats or a few days ahead to buy seats as you cannot reserve seats online with these coupons. At least not to know knowledge.
DO THEY SELL POPCORN, POP & CANDY AT 10:00 AM?
You bet they do! Everything you could get at an afternoon or evening movie is also offered at 10:00 am. And if you think it doesn’t sell, you’d be dead wrong. When you go to a 10:00 am showing of a movie you are walking into a theater packed with children hopped on candy, soda and popcorn! Good Luck!
WHY YOU SHOULD GO!
Of course you should go! If your kids are older and know how to sit in their seats, it’s a great way for you to catch up on a few Zzzz’s while they watch the movie. Er, um. I mean, it’s a fun morning to spend with your kids, doing something they’ll love. A way to bond with your children. Just make sure to take them over to the grandparents after while you “run errands”. That way when you get back the sugar high will be over!
On a serious note though, going to the movies is always fun. Kids and adults both love it. And we adults especially love an outing that isn’t going to rob us blind. If you print the free passes, then the entire event could be free if you skip the popcorn. Making this the cheapest and most fun indoor activity St. Cloud has to offer!
