When it comes to quick and easy desserts, these Strawberry Shortcake Trifle Cups are the perfect choice! You can either premake these for your dinner guests or you can have a trifle bar! At a trifle bar you can have each ingredient laid out separately and the guests could then make their own trifles!
The other option you have is that if you don’t want to make individual trifles, you can easily toss all the ingredients into a large trifle bowl for a traditional trifle.
I however love the idea of individual portions. They look so elegant and the presentation is top notch. Just imagine the look on your guests faces when you come out of the kitchen with a platter of these beauties!
For those of you who have endured a crazy and snowy winter like myself, you’ll possibly think that introducing strawberry desserts in March is a little crazy.
However the lower half of the country is now enjoy their first strawberry season! I’m always jealous when my friends in Florida post photos of them strawberry picking in March!
MARCH! We normally still have snow on the ground, if not still falling from the sky in March.
And yet my lovely friends in Florida are in shorts, flip flops and are out strawberry picking!
I am very VERY jealous of them right now! In Minnesota our Strawberry season lasts for 2 weeks in June.
However lucky for us that strawberries are in season ALL YEAR ROUND at the grocery store! No matter the season, someone is picking and shipping strawberries to my local store and I am buying them.
This last week the strawberries were BEAUTIFUL! They weren’t unripe as often is the case but perfectly ripe. So ripe that many were that dark rich red, almost purple color.
You know the berries I’m talking about. The strawberries that are sweet to the taste with zero tartness to them. My family devoured that pack of strawberries in one sitting and they are begging me to buy more!
So despite us not being about to go out and pick our own strawberries this month, we will certainly enjoy the fruits of someone elses’ labor!
My kids are picky when it comes to fresh fruit desserts. However even my kids love eating these! Such a tasty way to enjoy fresh strawberries!
I’m known for whipping up a few batches of my Strawberry Sauce every year and then using that sauce for ice cream, cakes, pies and even milkshakes.
These Strawberry Shortcake Trifle Cups are another way that we enjoy strawberry sauce!
Fresh sliced strawberries, strawberry sauce, whipped cream and pound cake truly do make the freshest tasting dessert on earth.
Now you can whip up your own pound cake, but when I’m in a hurry I just grab one at the grocery store. Making these trifle cups extra easy to put together!
If you look into the history of a trifle, these would not be considered a true trifle. In America we pretty much say that anything layered in a bowl with cake and fruit or pudding would be deemed a trifle.
However a true English Trifle is made with a sponge cake soaked in fruit and liquor. It is then topped with an egg custard and whipped cream.
Sadly out of that entire description the only aspect of a true English Trifle that I’ve actually got is the whipped cream!
And we could stretch it to say that my pound cake could be soaked in my strawberry sauce, but really it’s a stretch.
Despite these not being a true trifle, this easy Strawberry Shortcake Trifle recipe is one that we love to make all year round.
The lovely thing about this fruit trifle is that you can swap the strawberries out for any in season berry. Blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, boysenberries all make for a tasty light and refreshing dessert.
This dessert is definitely looks fancy but is incredibly easy to whip up. Plus if you have any leftover strawberry sauce, it will never go to waste.
Whether for a dinner party, baby shower or weeknight dinner, these Strawberry Shortcake Trifle Cups are a hit!
