I love the vibrant red color of this jello punch slush. Not only is it the perfect way to cool down in the summer months, but the bright color lends itself well as a holiday punch!

With a bit of the frozen jello mix in your freezer, you can whip this out any time: holiday parties, baby showers, bridal showers, even Thanksgiving!

Whether you’re looking for a fun way to beat the heat or want to serve an exciting, kid-friendly non-alcoholic drink at a party with friends, I’m sure you’ll love this homemade strawberry slushie recipe!

What ingredients are in a strawberry slushie?

One of the ingredients you may not be aware is in a lot of slushie recipes is Jello! The purpose of including Jello is two-fold: for one, it adds a lot of flavor; and two, it helps maintain the slushiness of the frozen portion and keeps things from separating.

Below you’ll find all the things you will need to make your own slush punch at home!

  • White sugar – while I like to include the sugar for an extra flavorful drink, you can halve or omit it entirely if that is your preference.
  • Water – it’s not really a punch if there isn’t a liquid!
  • Strawberry jello – one three-ounce package is all you need to pump up flavor and perfect the texture of your southern strawberry pineapple punch bowl.
  • Pineapple juice – pineapple juice is the perfect combination of tart and sweet, and is a great complement to the strawberry flavor in this punch! Don’t use fresh, only canned!
  • Lemon juice – lemon juice adds a little extra zip and tartness to this strawberry pineapple punch recipe.
  • Orange juice – while strawberry and pineapple are the most dominant flavors, this is a true strawberry punch with other juices added as well. I recommend using 100% juice for the best flavor!
  • Lemon lime soda or ginger ale – the perfect way to add some fizz and fun to your non alcoholic slush punch!

How do you make a strawberry slushie?

One of the best things about this recipe is you can make the frozen portion and store it for later! It’s quick and easy to make and can be pulled out any time and mixed up with some soda for a perfectly refreshing treat!

  1. Boil sugar, jello, and water – make sure the sugar and jello disolve!
  2. Stir in pineapple, lemon, and orange juice
  3. Divide into containers
  4. Freeze until solid
  5. Scrape out desired amount
  6. Pour in soda
  7. Enjoy

If you love the flavor of this but don’t have time or want to wait for it to freeze and make a slush, you can definitely serve it chilled as a strawberry pineapple punch.

Are strawberry slushies kid friendly (nonalcoholic)?

There are so many things to love about this frozen strawberry slushie, and I know I’ve mentioned a few of them above.

Another great thing is that this is a totally kid-friendly non alcoholic summer punch recipe that the entire family can enjoy!

So while I cannot speak to all strawberry slushies and their kid-friendliness, I can say with certainty that THIS recipe is nonalcoholic and kid friendly and DELICIOUS.

How long do strawberry slushies last?

I mentioned before how you can make the juice and jello mixture ahead of time and keep it in the freezer to pull out later and mix up with some soda — which is AWESOME.

Because the slushie part of this strawberry punch is kept in the freezer until you’re ready to serve it, it can last for a good, long while!

You can store the frozen jello and juice mixture in the freezer for 3 months or longer! Make sure it’s in an airtight container to prevent flavor degradation.

Can dogs eat strawberry slushies?

I know your furry friend looks as hot and miserable, and it’s tempting to share your tasty and refreshing drink with them, but please don’t feed your pets this strawberry punch.

It’s got quite a bit of added sugar, which is really not good for your dog or other pets!

It’s even recommended that you not give your dog whole fruit juices as it’s not something their bodies need.

Total Time 5 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 (3 ounce) package strawberry jello
  • 1/2 (46 ounce) can pineapple juice
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 (2 liter) bottle lemon lime soda or ginger ale

Instructions

  1. Bring the sugar, water and jello to a boil in a large sauce pan. Boil until jello and sugar are dissolved.
  2. Stir in the pineapple juice, lemon juice & orange juice.
  3. Mixture will still be hot, but any thick container will be able to withstand the heat. If you're worried, you can allow mixture to cool before pouring into containers.
  4. Once you place mixture into containers freeze solid.
  5. Once frozen, scrape out a cup full, add lemon lime soda or ginger ale and stir.
  6. OR remove a 1/2 cup sized hunk from container and place in blender with 1/4 cup soda. Blend until frothy. Pour into a cup and add additional soda.

Notes

1. You can easily freeze this in small portions by using an ice cube tray or silicone cupcake pan. Once frozen solid you can pop them out and place in a plastic freezer bag and continue freezing.

2. Use mixture within 6 months of freezing.

Hello! Is it 1 cup of frozen mixture to 2 liters of ginger ale?

Janelle

Hi Bethany! I'm not sure where you got the ratio of 1 cup frozen mixture to 2 liters of ginger ale? The recipe states, 1/2 cup of scraped slush (not ice cube) to 1/4 cup of gingerale per cup. Blend and then add additional ginger ale to taste. Generally for me it's just over 1 cup total ginger ale for 1/2 cup scraped slush. If doing a big batch for a party, the ratio is more like 2 bottles of gingerale to one batch of this slush recipe. Add more ginger ale to taste. Hope that helps!
