Homemade Baby Wipes

Sharing is caring!

Homemade Baby Wipes are so easy to make and cost significantly less than the grocery store! Perfect for babies, cleaning or dusting and great for the environment!

This post has been written by my good friend Bethany who is environmentally conscious and wants to provide her newborn with the best care she can.  Thanks to her for writing this post and sharing her recipe for Homemade Baby Wipes!

With all the craziness going on, I kept thinking how thankful I am that I make my own wipes and hand sanitizer and am not having to deal with running out to the stores right now.

I will be honest, it took my new mom to a two-week-old, sleep deprived brain, a few days to think about sharing this information with all of you! The best part is, this recipe is super simple, take no time at all AND I end spending less than I would if I bought the stuff from the store. So, for me, cheaper and safer for my little… it’s a no-brainer in our house!

About that “safer” part… It’s no secret that using all-natural products are better for our bodies. We simply cannot process all the chemicals that are added to everyday items. It can lead to a toxin overload, which can cause all sorts of other issues … (I would suggest going to google scholar and searching “toxin overload”). Again, if nothing else, it’s cheaper to make your own products and you have some added peace of mind.

Ingredients for Homemade Baby Wipes Solution:

  • Airtight Container – You want to find something that is about 8 inches or taller with a sealing lid.  Without the lid, your wipes will dry out!
  • Paper Towels – I’ve found paper towels are just thick enough to attack the grossest of tasks without bleeding through and getting on your hands!
  • Castile Soap – This is the muscle behind the wipes and will give your baby and home a good clean feeling after the job is done!
  • Oil – oil protects the babys skin and is actually good for wood as well for when cleaning.
  • Essential Oils – These will not hurt your baby and will offer a nice calming scent that can actually help baby relax.
  • Water – A must have so the product isn’t too potent!

Can I make reusable Homemade Baby Wipes?

You bet!  Simply use a bundle of super soft baby wash clothes or a soft material like fleece with pinking sheers so the edges don’t frey.  Follow the same natural baby wipes recipe but instead of tossing the used wipes into the garbage, rinse then off and wash them in your washing machine!

How do you make Homemade Baby Wipes?

Making your own wipes literally will take you about 5 minutes and save you real money the first time and over time.  Plus you’ll be amazed at just how easy it is to whip up!

Simply mix your liquid ingredients together and pour over a half roll of paper towels!  The paper towels will automatically absorb the liquid making it a snap to whip up!

The oil in the wipes is so little that it shouldn’t affect clothes washed with these reusable wipes. However if this is a concern for you, then skip this step.  You can always rub coconut oil on your baby’s bum if dryness occurs (which shouldn’t!).

What Essential Oils should I use with my Homemade Baby Wipes?

  • Seedlings Calm – soothing aroma to baby and gentle on skin.
  • Chamomile – Perfect for sensitive skin and helps relieve rashes.
  • Lavender – Gently and soothing to baby and mama!  It has antiseptic properties and helps with rashes and irritated skin too.

This easy recipe for Homemade Baby Wipes is SO easy to make and will keep your baby bills low!  With only a few simple ingredients, you wish you started making this Homemade Baby Wipes Solution sooner!  Natural ingredients for a healthier baby and a cleaner home!

Homemade Baby Wipes

Baby Wipes Solution - hand pulling a wipe out of container.

Homemade baby wipes are so easy to make and cost significantly less than the grocery store! Perfect for babies, cleaning or dusting and great for the environment!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cut your paper towel roll in half. A bread knife or serrated knife make this easier.
  2. Place one of the paper towel half rolls in your air tight container with lid off.
  3. In a separate bowl or large glass measuring cup, combine castile soap, oil, essential oil(s) and water. Mix well with a fork or whisk.
  4. Pour mixture over the top of the paper towels. Try to distribute it evenly, but it doesn't have to be perfect.
  5. Once the liquid is absorbed (a few minutes), you can pull the cardboard tube out of the middle and pull your wipes out from there!
  6. Place the lid on your container and use as needed!

Looking forward to trying this, how long do these last for? What prevents mold from growing?

These are not something you want to make in bulk and stock up on. As you stated there isn't anything to prevent mold in long term storage. These are something you want to only make 1 or two containers of and then make again when you get low. I hope that helps!

In theory I would say yes, but I've never tried it. Let me know how it turns out!

This is perfect timing as it can be hard to find wipes in the stores or it can be a little pricey. Thank you for this idea!

Hi I am in South Africa. Which soap can I use in the place of the Castile soap?

Hello! Any natural soap should work fine. However if you can only find bar soap, I found this tutorial on how to turn your bar soap into liquid soap that you could use. https://naturalnerd.co.za/melt-and-pour-liquid-soap/

Good luck, sorry I can't be more helpful as I don't know what products you have there.
