I absolutely love how fast and easy these beef tips are. It practically makes itself, and is a hearty enough meal that I can feed it to a hoard of hungry teenagers. I mean, that’s saying something.

Slow cooker beef tips also make an awesome freezer meal! Meal planning is so easy whenever I add this to the rotation.

All you need are a few ingredients, 10 minutes, and BAM! Dinner. Oh and did I mention the best part? The sirloin tips are delicious. Like finger-licking yummy. At least that’s what the young ones who don’t like using utensils say. I recommend bibs for the little ones.

What Are Beef Tips?

Beef tips are the tender cuts of meat generally taken from a larger roast or steak. It can come from tenderloin, sirloin, or chuck roast. Typically it is a tender beef that cooks quickly.

You can buy beef tips at the store, sold exactly like that. You can also use beef labeled as stew meat.

If you want, buy the beef roast and cut it up to the size you want. No matter what type you decide to buy, try to get a boneless cut; it makes cutting the meat into cubes a whole lot easier!

How to Make Beef Tips

You’re going to need a handful of ingredients to pull crockpot beef tips together. I bet you even have all the ingredients for your beef tips in your fridge and pantry already!

  • Beef Sirloin Tip Steak: You may also choose to use stew meat. The pieces should be cut up into 1 inch pieces. I used sirloin cuts because they are more tender, but use whichever ones you want. Keep in mind that not all cuts will cook the same in the slow cooker so keep an eye on the internal temperature.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: A fermented condiment that was originally from England, it is both sweet and savory and has a very distinct tang from the vinegar. It pairs perfectly with Barbecue sauce.
  • Italian Dressing: Choose a dressing that is not creamy. Creamy dressings tend to be made with a mayonnaise or sour cream base. These beef tips taste better with an oil base.
  • Garlic Pepper Seasoning: This seasoning blend is a mixture of spicy garlic and black pepper. You can buy this at the store or make some of your own.
  • Barbecue Sauce: Use whatever kind of barbecue sauce you want. I believe this tastes better with a savory sauce as opposed to a fruity sauce but it will taste good either way.
  • Cornstarch: The cornstarch you will use to thicken your sauce. It then makes a delicious gravy to layer over whatever you choose to serve your beef tips with.

How to Cook Beef Tips

Three simple steps!

  • Add ingredients to the crockpot: The steak pieces go on the bottom followed by the rest of your ingredients, omitting the corn starch.
  • Cook: When your beef comes to 160*F it is done. Typically this is going to take 3-4 hours on low.
  • Make Gravy: Mix the cornstarch with a little bit of water and then mix in.

Pro Tip: Try putting a slow cooker liner inside your crock pot before use. This makes for easy cleanup afterwards. A simple dish like this should have an easy cleanup, don’t you think?

What to Make With Beef Tips

My personal favorite side dish is mashed potatoes. Spice them up with some cheese and chives or maybe onion and garlic. Go wild and experiment with some potato flavor combos! All will be tasty with the crockpot beef tips and gravy.

If you have a second crockpot you could even try these Crockpot Mashed Potatoes for the EASIEST dinner ever!

Another good option is egg noodles. Some wide egg noodles are just the thing to pick up and eat with a mouthwatering bite of beef tips.

Can You Freeze Crockpot Beef Tips?

I think these beef tips are a perfect make ahead freezer meal. Simply add all of the ingredients, omitting the water and cornstarch, to a freezer friendly bag or container.

Then on the day you are ready to cook them, take them out and put them in the crock pot. Increase your cook time by about 1-2 hours, making sure the beef reaches at least 145*F for medium doneness.

Follow the rest of the recipe as stated.

You may also choose to freeze the leftovers (if there are any!) and reheat them for later eating. Follow the recipe, allow the crockpot beef tips to cool completely before moving to their freezer friendly container, and then simply reheat on the day you want to eat them.

The frozen beef tips should be eaten within 2-3 months for best quality. If you keep them in the fridge, choose to eat within 3-4 days.

Pro Tip: Write the recipe on the bag. Then on cooking day, you don’t need to search for the recipe to see how to make it. Write it before adding the ingredients to the bag so you aren’t trying to write on a bumpy surface!

Can You Cook Crockpot Beef Tips Without A Slow Cooker?

Yep! While the slow cooker ensures that your beef tips will come out tender and flavorful every time, there are other options. Mix together your sauce and beef tips and then cook them on a skillet or toss them on your grill.

If you choose the grill, after marinating in the sauce, make sure to save it so you can cook it up later in a sauce pan and have a rich gravy to top your mashed potatoes or noodles.

These crockpot beef tips are absolutely mouth watering. They have gotten rave reviews every time we’ve served them and so will you!
