Have you ever heard of puffcorn?

Up until a few years ago I had not.

Then when I tried it, I was very disappointed.

Essentially it’s a cheetos puff without the cheese.

It has the texture of puffed packing peanuts and is something I could never quite understand the purpose of.

And yet, every time I go to the grocery store, there it was sitting on the shelf in the chip isle.

Clearly someone liked it.

But why?

What was the draw?

It wasn’t until my family attended a party and White Chocolate Puffcorn was served.

Naturally I turned my nose up to it, thinking why on earth would anyone eat anything that tasted like packing peanuts.

My husband on the other hand, was more adventurous and tried it.

It’s important to note that my husband, Ben, doesn’t do sweets.

He is more of a salty snack guy than a sweets guy.

So the sheer fact that he tried this before I did, was a miracle.

After my husband tried the White Chocolate Puffcorn, he immediately brought me a little bowl of it and insisted I try it.

My husband NEVER gets excited about anything.

He is a low key, calm person all the time.

So when he brought this treat to me to try, that was his equivalent of getting excited and saying “Janelle you have GOT to try this!”

Hesitantly I tried a single kernel.

I was surprised that what I deemed packing peanuts, actually tasted pretty good.

So good I ate the entire bowl he gave me.

My husband pointed out that this tasty treat was simply white chocolate and Puffcorn.

Two simple ingredients that truly changed the way I thought about puffcorn!

I quickly realized that this White Chocolate Puffcorn isn’t a difficult thing to make.

He then requested I make it.

Skip forward a few years, and I still hadn’t made it.

Really, I just kind of forgot about it.

And the once a year, usually around Christmas, he would mention it.

I would always forget to pick up the ingredients at the store and thus we both would forget about it again until the next Christmas came around.

So this year, when he mentioned it again, I immediately went to the store, bought the ingredients, and within 24 hours made him a batch.

He was a happy guy.

I think it’s the whole sweet meets salty snack flavor combination that really appealed to him.

Either way, I finally got a gold star for making him his White Chocolate Puffcorn.

What surprised me the most though, was that my daughter also claimed it as her all time favorite treat.

My daughter is hands down the pickiest eater on the planet.

So imagine my surprise when she TRIED this and then fell in love with it.

My son on the other hand was the exact opposite.

He LOVES food.

It’s a rare day when he wont eat or try something new.

However, when I placed this in front of him, he was not interested in even trying it!

Finally I was able to convince him to try it and believe it or not he didn’t like it.

{Gasp!}

I never thought I’d see the day that this kid wouldn’t like something.

And yet of all the things it could be, it was a chocolate treat!

He wasn’t the least bit tempted to sample, sneak or munch on this treat.

Which was A-OK with me.

Less sugar in his diet is a good thing.

The other three of us loved it.

So much so that we added a bag of this to our Teachers Christmas gift baskets that year.

Since that first year that we made this White Chocolate Puffcorn, we’ve made it a tradition to whip up a batch every year.

This has become a year round treat for us as we make it for every holiday!

Plus we’ve found it to be a wonderful gift to give others!

Friends, neighbors and even teachers gobble this White Chocolate Puffcorn up!

And we love that it’s such an easy and quick treat to whip up!

I hope you don’t wait a few years to make this White Chocolate Puffcorn like I did.

Because it’s the fastest and tastiest treat that will please a crowd!

We love this White Chocolate Puffcorn and you will too!

As claimed by my daughter, it is a MUST make treat tradition that everyone should experience!

Now if you really want to get a gold star award, then sneak some of this in your kids lunch!

I guarantee they’ll come home happy!

Well, at least mine did!

I have been making this for at least 20 years. Only difference is I add 1/3 to 1/2 cup of salted Dry Roasted Peanuts. Mix in with the chocolate so it sticks in with the clusters of popcorn. I pop fresh popcorn for my candy.

Hi Janelle My co-worker brought some of the white chocolate puffcorn to work and we went crazy over it. But she would not tell anyone how she made it. I'm glad I found the receipt and can't wait to try it.

Do you have to use the coconut oil

Janelle

Friday 4th of May 2018

Nope! If you buy candy melts or melting chocolate you wont need any oil at all. It's really only for if you melt chocolate chips. However if you want to do the chocolate chip method and don't want to use coconut oil, then I suggest vegetable or canola oil (though vegetable would be my #2 choice). Chocolate chips melted down make a thick chocolate and the oil just helps thin the chocolate out so it's easier to pour and work with.
