This lemon dessert is THE BOMB! You know what I mean? So creamy. So fluffy. So lemony. So perfect.

I’ve served it so many times when we have guests over and it always gets rave reviews!

I love that this lemon mousse recipe is super quick. I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl and this dessert fits the bill.

Lemon curd mousse also only needs 3 ingredients! Which means I don’t need to make any special trips to the grocery store.

And easy lemon mousse with lemon curd is perfect for a dinner party! Mother’s Day, Easter, BBQs, baby showers, really any special occasions!

Since this lemon curd mousse recipe can be made in advance, I never find myself in a time crunch!

What Is Lemon Mousse?

Lemon Mousse is one of the easiest desserts you can make because it requires only 2 ingredients!  Mousse is a light, airy dessert that tricks your brain into thinking it’s calorie and fat free!  It’s also the perfect year round treat because it’s so smooth and flavorful!

Who Created Lemon Mousse?

Traditional mousse was originally created in France by a man named Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.

He was a French painter that lived during the 19th century.

I’m not sure how he came to create this delicious dessert, but I’m sure glad he did!

At first, it was only made as a chocolate mousse and was called mayonnaise de chocolate.

After a time it came to be called chocolate mousse. Mousse is also a French word that means froth or foam.

In time, many different flavors were mixed in place of the chocolate, including of course, lemon desserts!

Mousse recipes are now popular around the world. If you haven’t tried it, believe me, you’ll totally love it!

What Ingredients are in Lemon Mousse?

Here’s the simple ingredients you’ll need to make a delicious lemon mousse.

  • Lemon Curd: If you haven’t made lemon curd before, it’s so useful! Find the original lemon curd recipe here!
  • Heavy Whipping Cream: Different from whipped cream. Make sure to use the right one!
  • Raspberries or fresh berries: Raspberries taste great with lemon but you can substitute with your favorite berry.

Pro Tips:

  • While you can find lemon curd at the store, try the homemade lemon curd. It produces a much better result.
  • If you do buy the lemon curd, try it first to make sure it’s a good quality lemon curd.

How to Make Lemon Mousse

This sweet treat is truly the perfect lemon mousse! Follow these simple steps for an easy peasy recipe.

  1. Whip Cream: Whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form and then mix in some of the lemon curd.
  2. Layer: Layer lemon curd, lemon mixture, and top with fresh berries in individual serving dishes.
  3. Serve: It can be served immediately or chill until you’re ready to serve.

Pro Tips:

  • Use cold cream, a cold whisk attachment, and a cold medium bowl. It’ll make the cream whip better.
  • Don’t whip by hand! Save your arm the work and use the bowl of an electric mixer.

Can You Freeze Lemon Mousse?

You sure can! Freeze the fluffy lemon mousse in an airtight container for up to 2 months in the freezer.

Be sure not to attempt to reheat it at all when you’re ready to eat it.

Just put it in the fridge and thaw overnight until the mousse is soft and scoop able again.

How Long Does it Take Lemon Mousse to Set?

No time at all!

While some recipes call for you to cook the mousse and use eggs and things, in this recipe you’re using an easy lemon curd.

Lemon curd has already been cooked and set so the fresh lemon mousse doesn’t need any time to set.

That means you can have this recipe ready for your guests in mere minutes!

Just be sure not to serve it with any graham crackers or things.

Just an easy one why do you use all the egg when other recipes say yolk?s

I've not tried the other recipes so I can't compare flavors or textures. But my thoughts are: why over complicate a recipe with separating eggs when you don't have to? This turns out fantastic with the whole egg so why waste half an egg or spend extra time separating the eggs? I hope you'll try it and then maybe you can give a comparison. Great question!
